Background: Denture identification is an essential component of prosthodontic practice,
particularly in geriatric patients and forensic scenarios. Conventional identification methods are often
limited by inadequate information storage, poor durability, and accessibility issues. Quick Response
(QR) codes represent a modern digital solution capable of storing large amounts of data and enabling
rapid retrieval.
Case Presentation: A geriatric edentulous patient was rehabilitated with complete dentures
fabricated using conventional techniques. A QR code containing patient identification details and a
geolocation link to the patient’s residence was generated, laminated, and embedded in the posterior
palatal seal region of the maxillary denture. The code was sealed with clear acrylic resin to ensure
durability. Upon scanning, the QR code provided instant access to patient data and navigation to the
patient’s home address.
Conclusion: QR code–embedded dentures offer a reliable, economical, and innovative method for
denture identification, enhancing patient safety and providing significant forensic and medico-legal
benefits.
